Vietnam reopen visa application (e-visa & visa on arrival) for citizens of Macao starting from March 15, 2022

Updated: 10:09 PM - 28 Apr,2024

The coronavirus pandemic has greatly disrupted the travel and tourism industry around the world. Last  2020, several countries have imposed travel restrictions in order to combat the spread of this deadly virus, also known as the Covid 19.  In Vietnam, the government has decided to stop accepting International visitors and has temporarily banned the issuance of a visa. This especially applies to foreign visitors from countries that were badly affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Thankfully, things are trying to go back to normal now. And if you’re a citizen of Macao and you’re thinking of visiting Vietnam soon, you can now start with your visa application. Macanese citizens are among those nationalities that need a valid visa before they can enter Vietnam. Here’s everything you need to know about getting a visa to Vietnam.

Vietnam Visa Options for Citizens of Macao

For Macanese citizens who are thinking of going to Vietnam soon, the e-visa is perhaps the easiest visa that you can get. To apply for this visa, you don’t need to go to an embassy or at any agency. All you need is your laptop, mobile phone, and an Internet connection. Everything is done online and in only three days’ time, you will get your visa via email.

Another visa that Macanese citizens can avail of is the visa on arrival. With this visa, you will be given a visa sticker on your passport when you arrive at the airport. But before you can get the visa, you must first register online. You’ll be asked to fill out an application form for this. And once this is approved, you will receive a pre-approval letter. You will show this letter along with your passport and other requirements at the visa counter. That’s when you will be given a visa sticker on your passport.

How to Apply for the Vietnam E-visa for Citizens of Macao

The reason why the e-visa is called the electronic visa is that it’s a type of visa that is issued online. You’re going to apply for this visa online and it will be given to you online as well. Once you receive the PDF version of the visa, you just need to print it and bring it with you to Vietnam. Here’s how you can get this visa.

  1. Visit the official website for the e-visa application. Fill out the application form completely and make sure all details are correct, including spelling.
  2. Go to the next page and upload the required documents. These include your passport’s bio page and digital photos. If you don’t have the scanned copy of your passport, take a photo of the bio page and upload it. For the photo, it should be passport-sized and in JPEG format with a white background.
  1. The next page is for the payment of a $25 processing fee. You can pay this with your card and also with PayPal. Once you’ve submitted your payment, you’ll get a confirmation stating that your visa is already being processed.
  2. In 3 -5 business days, you’ll get an email for the e-visa copy. Just print this and take it with you on your trip. When you arrive in Vietnam, just proceed directly to Passport Control and you will be stamped entry into the country.

How to Apply for the Vietnam Visa on Arrival for Citizens of Macao

For those who need a multiple entry visa and would need to stay in Vietnam for more than a month, the visa on arrival is what you should get. This is how you can apply for the visa on arrival.

  1. Register online and fill out the application form. Make sure you fill out the form correctly. Be very careful with the spelling. Otherwise, your request could be denied.
  2. After a few days, you will receive an email for the pre-approval letter. The email will also come with a blank application form that you can print and fill out. Take these documents with you when flying to Vietnam.
  3. Upon arriving at the airport, look for the visa counter. This should state Visa Landing Counter. Submit the requirements including your passport. You will then be asked to wait while they process your visa.
  4. After a few minutes, your name will be called back to the counter. The officer will then give you back your passport. Check your passport and you’ll find that you already have a visa in it. Now you can enter Vietnam for your holiday.

Applying for a Vietnam visa is so easy. However, it’s important that you do it as early as possible. Since the visa issuance has just started again, Vietnam is expecting to receive thousands of applications. Therefore, in order not to delay your visa, you should submit your visa application now.
