Requirements for Printing the Vietnam eVisa

Updated: 10:46 PM - 30 Apr,2025

When traveling to Vietnam with an electronic visa (e-Visa), it is important to have it in the correct format. As an entry permit that is obtained online, a common question is whether it is necessary to print the Vietnam visa.

Many electronic visa systems around the world link the eVisa to the travel document. This means that it is automatically processed when the traveler’s passport is scanned, while others can be presented as QR codes on mobile devices. However, Vietnam’s e-Visa is not in this category.

This guide outlines the requirements for printing an e-Visa for Vietnam.

Do I Need to Print My Vietnam e-Visa?

Yes, it is necessary to print a copy of the Vietnam e-Visa.

The Vietnamese visa is referred to as “electronic” due to the fact that it is obtained by applying online. However, visitors will need a physical copy when entering the country.

This means that once it is received, the traveler will have to print the e-Visa. It must then be brought to Vietnam and presented at the border along with the passport registered in the application.

How many copies of the Vietnam e-Visa do I need to print

In theory, travelers only need one copy of an approved e-Visa for Vietnam to enter the country. However, there is no problem in printing a backup copy in case the first is lost or damaged.

Travelers may want to bring a spare copy of the e-Visa so that they can carry one on their person while staying in Vietnam and keep another in their hotel room or accommodation to be on the safe side.

Can I present a digital copy of the Vietnam e-Visa on my phone or device?

No, digital copies of e-Visas are not accepted at Vietnamese border control. Travelers must print a copy and present it on arrival to gain entry to the country.

This is one of the Vietnam online visa requirements that travelers must adhere to.

How to Print the Vietnam e-Visa

Once the online Vietnam visa application has been approved and processed, the e-Visa is sent to the traveler by email. It is delivered to the account provided by the applicant in the online form.

When the email is received, the traveler must open the document on a computer or device connected to a printer. They must then print a copy of the Vietnam e-Visa.

Does the Vietnam e-Visa have to be printed in color or black and white?

There is no official line on how the e-Visa must be printed.

However, as it is an important document, it is highly recommended to print the Vietnam visa in color to preserve all the details on the physical copy.

That said, some travelers have reported that they were permitted to enter with a black and white copy by Vietnamese border officials.

Where Can I Use a Printed e-Visa to Enter Vietnam?

Nearly every major Vietnamese border crossing can be used with an e-Visa that has been printed.

The physical copy of the visa must first be presented to the airline at check-in in order to board a flight to Vietnam.

Upon arrival, visitors should present their printed Vietnam e-Visa to a border control officer at the immigration desk along with their passport. It is important that this is the same passport that was registered in the initial application.

Do You Need to Keep a Printed Copy of the e-Visa While in Vietnam?

Visitors are strongly advised to keep a copy of their printed e-Visa on their person for the duration of their stay in Vietnam. This will serve as proof that they have permission to be in the country.

It is unlikely that travelers will have to show their e-Visa after passing through border control. However, if the individual happens to be approached by a police officer or another authority figure during their stay and is asked to show their ID, they should be able to produce their passport and visa.

For this reason, it is a good idea to carry a copy at all times.
